Nasal tampons perform the same function but in the nose, to stop nosebleeds. Typically a nasal tampon is only necessary in serious nosebleeds that require medical attention.
Right, that should have stopped your blood nose. If it hasn't, try it again. Once the bleeding has stopped take it easy for a while, avoid heavy lifting, stay cool, and don't blow your nose for as long as you can. If the Thumbs Up method hasn't stopped your nosebleed after two full attempts consider checking with your doctor.

Mar 15, 2012·Thank you for all the great information. It all makes a lot of sense. I’ve used the quikclot gauze for nosebleeds on my 12 year old son. They work great. (He tends to get frequent nose bleeds that can go on for 20-30 minutes. I know that they can cauterize the vessels, but I’m hoping he’ll outgrow this soon, and the gauze is less invasive.)
